Welcome to the Savannah Dog Park

Savannah Dog Park mapThe Savannah Dog Park is the best thing to happen to dog owners in this town since the invention of the plastic grocery bag. The dog park is located on 41st and Drayton streets in the Starland Community and is the city’s first park dedicated solely to dogs and their owners. The dog park offers a shaded, fenced-in area where your dog can play and socialize with other dogs off the leash. Dogs need an outlet for their energy. Dogs who can run around with a feeling of freedom a few times each week will be better fit, less destructive, better neighbors and more socialized around other dogs and people. Plus, non-dog owners will appreciate fewer dogs in their parks.

The mission of the park is to enhance the bond between people and their pets in an urban environment. The Savannah Dog Park Association will promote responsible dog ownership while providing educational opportunities for owners and promoting the health of their pets.

Will there be a second dog park opening up in Savannah? If so where will it be located.

    Thanks!

I recently heard an ad on the radio for a Dog Wash and it said to refer to this site for more information - I dont see any. Does it cost anything?

Are there any beaches in the Savannah area that are dog friendly, where you can let you dog run free, in the sand, in the water…etc?

If so, can you recommend any dog friendly hotels or inns nearby as well.

    Thanks,
    Neal

There is a fabulous dog wash on Abercorn (near 37th) that is Self-Service or Grooming. I took my dog there to get a bath and it was so much fun- and I didn’t need to make an appointment! The indoor dog wash gives you everything you need, from dry smocks, to towels, shampoos, brushes, wash tubs, dryers, step ladders (for big dogs!), fur freshener (like BeautiFUR!) and treats at the end… and it only cost me $12! As for a second dog park opening in Savannah, Lord, I hope so!! The Savannah Dog Park is too small, doesn’t have grass, and is to centered on the owners having nice lawn chairs, so dogs are more interested in hanging out on the porch than running around… it is completely overpriced! PLEASE SOMEONE GET MY DOG A BIG PIECE OF LAND TO RUN AND PLAY!!!

Will Savannah open any dog parks on the Islands. We live on Wilmington. Where can we bring our dogs to run freely. Tybee beach, the running paths all say no dogs.

Recently moved to Savannah with two med/lg dogs. Saw this website and was excited to have a dog park close. Drove by and what a joke . Our backyard is bigger than this. How can dogs run and socialize in such a tight space? I hope there is something better coming soon.

If any one is interested I am starting to do weekly photographing at the park. I haven’t decided what day. But I will start posting them on flickr.com for now. I got a great shot of Cloe yesterday.

We went to the dog park and we totally love it ! Our Puppy runs and plays with all dogs… they’re extremely nice and everyone moderates their dogs. Wish there was a dog park in Islands . Either way we’re just glad theres a friendly place to take our puppy to. Love the people and cant be thankful enough for this park. xx
