About the Savannah Dog Park
The Savannah Dog Park is located on 41st and Drayton streets in Savannah, Georgia’s Starland Community and is the city’s first park dedicated solely to dogs and their owners. The dog park offers a shaded, fenced-in area where your dog can play and socialize with other dogs off the leash. The mission of the park is to enhance the bond between people and their pets in an urban environment. The Savannah Dog Park Association will promote responsible dog ownership while providing educational opportunities for owners and promoting the health of their pets.

I plan on going to the Savannah Dog park soon. Like this saturday…
I have a lab, I walk 2 - 4 times a day and would love to go somewhere different where she can meet other dogs to play and socialize with; instead of only seeing and hearing other dogs bark at us as we walk by them a fenced in yard.
We hope to see alot of dogs and people.

Recently I got a dog, he is sort of lonley since my cat is very nutty to him - he wants to play with her but she does not like to play with him
I would like to know what are the requirements for my dog to use your park
I lived in Columbia, MD there is the dog park and they have some requirements, would you let me know about this requirements and days and hrs operation
If you know of more then one dog park, please let me know, I live in Richmond Hill
Thank you,
Elizabeth
I am moving to Savannah very soon with my black lab/whippet mix. We are excited to know that there is a designated dog park in town. Are there others nearby as well? Like on the island?
The groundskeeper is crazy…he walks around acting like he’s talking to the cops and reporting hyper dogs
I have NEVER seen the park actually open. It has had a “closed for maintenance” sign up every single time I have ever been by. I’m starting to think that is code for closed forever.
We have a Bichon who loves to play with other small dogs. We are relocating to Savannah in the next few months and she will miss all of her doggie friends in CA. We hope that there will be a mix of dogs at the park so that she can have fun with all of them. We look forward to meeting everyone there!

I’m worried about bringing my dog to an off-leash dog park…i want her to have others to play with (she is very social) but i’m worried about dogs fighting…it seems like it could be overwhelming…does anyone have any dog park experience??
Lacey,
I have been there many times with my dogs. I have only seen one instantce of dogs fighting and the owners immediatly grabbed their dogs and both left the park. No one lets that happen. I am curious as to whether the park is still open. It’s been a while since I have been there and it takes me so long to get there I wish I knew if it was open.
I took my dog to the Piedmont dog park in Atlanta when she lived with me and it was a great experience pretty much everytime. People bring their dogs to socialize them and let them burn off energy playing with other dogs. There were rarely instances with aggressive dogs because people would ask the owners to take their dogs and leave the dog park. My dog is living with my parents for the time being and they plan to visit the dog park with her…I hope it will be open! She absolutely LOVED going to the park in Atlanta.
Hilton Head, SC beaches allow dogs on and off leash. It’s less than an hour from Savannah.
Piedmont Park in Atlanta is *the* park to take your dogs. My only problem is that some people get dressed up to go to the park. The other day I saw this lady wearing an all white outfit with heeled boots. (sigh).
If you want to stay in touch with happenings in piedmont park, check out a facebook page I put up to keep people in the know:

The dog park is now open. I drove past on 2/8/08 and saw sevral dogs happily at play.
I use to take my dog there all the time. Recently though, every time I drive by the park it is closed for maintenance! Does anyone know when it will be open again?
Does anyone know how much actual sway the groundskeeper has over anything? On two occaisions now I’ve heard him talk about banning certain breeds (ridgebacks and pitbulls specifically) and I really think that’s bogus. I also heard him talking about unaltered dogs as if it’s a huge problem… And I just feel like that kind of talk promotes and supports breed specific legislation, which is bonkers. Any thoughts on this?
We bring our small dog to the park here in San Francisco every other day and sheplays with the smaller dogs. The larger ones play with eachother (yes, pitbulls, huskies, boxers, etc.) and know to avoid the small dogs. They sort it out themselves. Once a pit bull wouldn’t leave my Bichon alone and I picked her up. The other owner took her dog and left because it was behaving aggressively. As we all know, it’s the responsibility of each owner to control their own dogs. If an owner is allowing his/her dog to be too rough…we should politely ask them to control their dog. My two cents.
Is the park still open? There was some confusion this weekend and I don’t want to drive all the way there and then have to turn around, AGAIN.
What are the hours at the dog park in Savannah, and it that the only one? Is there is fee and if so how much?
Jessica,
where are you located? it takes me about 45-50 minutes to get to that area of savannah…i’m wondering, if you are closeby, perhaps we could get our doggies together to socialize
We are so excited about this dog park! We are moving to Savannah in June to open our photography studio just around the corner at 2424 Drayton. We needed a backyard for our pups but we couldn’t pass up the opportunity of having a store front and living space together. When we saw this park around the corner we were very excited and plan to make daily trips!
