We are so excited about this dog park! We are moving to Savannah in June to open our photography studio just around the corner at 2424 Drayton. We needed a backyard for our pups but we couldn't pass up the opportunity of having a store front and living space together. When we saw this park around the corner we were very excited and plan to make daily trips!

Jessica,
where are you located? it takes me about 45-50 minutes to get to that area of savannah...i'm wondering, if you are closeby, perhaps we could get our doggies together to socialize

Is the park still open? There was some confusion this weekend and I don't want to drive all the way there and then have to turn around, AGAIN.

We bring our small dog to the park here in San Francisco every other day and sheplays with the smaller dogs. The larger ones play with eachother (yes, pitbulls, huskies, boxers, etc.) and know to avoid the small dogs. They sort it out themselves. Once a pit bull wouldn't leave my Bichon alone and I picked her up. The other owner took her dog and left because it was behaving aggressively. As we all know, it's the responsibility of each owner to control their own dogs. If an owner is allowing his/her dog to be too rough...we should politely ask them to control their dog. My two cents.

Does anyone know how much actual sway the groundskeeper has over anything? On two occaisions now I've heard him talk about banning certain breeds (ridgebacks and pitbulls specifically) and I really think that's bogus. I also heard him talking about unaltered dogs as if it's a huge problem... And I just feel like that kind of talk promotes and supports breed specific legislation, which is bonkers. Any thoughts on this?

I use to take my dog there all the time. Recently though, every time I drive by the park it is closed for maintenance! Does anyone know when it will be open again?

Piedmont Park in Atlanta is *the* park to take your dogs. My only problem is that some people get dressed up to go to the park. The other day I saw this lady wearing an all white outfit with heeled boots. (sigh).

If you want to stay in touch with happenings in piedmont park, check out a facebook page I put up to keep people in the know:

Hilton Head, SC beaches allow dogs on and off leash. It's less than an hour from Savannah.
