I was there last week looking for apartments and scoping out the dog scene. I was impressed that so many apartments allow dogs and that there are many dogs around town, but I was appalled at how there is no leash free space for dogs to run and play. The Starland Dog Park seems a good effort, but it's nowhere I can walk with my dog--it's a small fenced pit with one lonely tree. Is there anywhere in the area where we can hike over rocks, let the dogs run in and out of woods, jump in some water, smell and chase small rodents. Thanks for the postings about Hilton Head. I went to Tybee and was so disappointed about their pet policy. How can I help and who can I write to help bring dogs back there? There are many dog friendly hotels there as well. If you go I highly recommend going down the dock on the river side of the island. At the end there is a little place called the Raw Bar. Very pet friendly, live music outside on the weekends, and great food. Not to mention the ambiance.
