Doggie Carnaval to be held May 4

The Doggie Carnival is only 3 weeks away — Sunday, May 4 from 12:00 noon to 4pm in Forsyth Park benefiting the Humane Society. This fundraising event, if you haven’t participated before, is a fun-filled carnival with great food, games, contests, prizes and the best dog-watching of the year! This year’s event, emceed by WRHQ’s Paul Sebastian, features the ever-popular “Pooch Smooch” and “Best Dog Trick” contests along with a Doggie Yoga Class and Doggie Acupuncture!

Raffle Prize

New this year is a fantastic raffle prize donated by Westin Hotels and Resorts — a weekend getaway for two at the Westin Savannah Resort & Golf Club, and includes a golf/spa package and river-view room. The total value is $1,200. Raffle tickets are $5 and are available at the Humane Society, TailsSpin and Canine Palace. You do not have to be present to win and the winner will be announced at the end of Doggie Carnival.

Reserve Your Booth Today — Space is Limited

The $150 registration fee provides you with a table, chairs, signage and a listing on our website — you bring the rest — please fill out the attached Booth Registration Form and send it in with your check made out to the Humane Society - plan on arriving at the park by 10:00 am for set up and staying until break down at 4:00 pm. We can help with game or contest ideas for your booth as well.

Non-profits and rescue groups are invited to have a community booth free of charge – we will provide a table, chairs and signage — no adoptions please!

2008 Spring Membership Drive March 8

The Savannah Dog Park will be holding its 2008 Spring Membership Drive on Saturday, March 8 from 10am to 2pm. Please renew your membership or join at the Park and receive your 2008 Dog Tag! We have big plans for 2008, including a new gate system, park lighting and electrical system, secure back fence, and additional landscaping. Please support the Park that you and your dog loves! 4TH Annual Halloween Doggie Costume Party

Do you want to dress up for Halloween but feel like that’s just for kids? Well deck out your dog in costume and come out to the park! The 4th Annual Halloween Doggie Costume Party will be held Thursday, October 25th at the Savannah Dog Park from 5 to 6 pm.

There will be prizes for best dressed pooch:

Fall yard sale to be rescheduled

The Savannah Dog Park Fall Yard Sale that was originally scheduled for this Saturday, November 4, will be rescheduled to a later date. We will keep everyone posted with updated information. July 14: “Puttin’ on the Dog for Maggie’s Sake”

“Puttin’ on the Dog for Maggie’s Sake” is a “groovy” golf tournament and a funky-formal dance party in memory of Maggie Mae, a black lab whose tragic death has spurred positive action to reform Animal Control. Puttin’ on the Dog celebrates Maggie’s memory and benefits the homeless animals of the Humane Society. Tee time for the event is Friday, July 14, 2006 at 7:45 am, with an 8 am shotgun start. All players receive a goody bag, a breakfast of champions, beverages and a boxed lunch. There will be an awards presentation when play ends. Valued prizes will be awarded to winning teams. The associated party will take place that night from 7 to 11 pm, where there will be live music, dancing, an auction, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres. Dress code is funky formal: almost anything goes. Go all out with taffeta and tails or simply accessorize with an outrageous or funky bow tie, boa, hat or jacket. Bark in the Park/Microchip Clinic

The Savannah Sand Gnats are hosting Bark in the Park 2006 on May 21, 2006 starting at 1pm and lasting until the end of the game. Coastal Pet Rescue will be on hand with pets for adoption and will hold a microchip clinic from 1 to 3 pm. Cost is $10 per dog. Dogs must have proof of current rabies vaccination and be leashed. The Savannah Dog Park is the best thing to happen to dog owners in this town since the invention of the plastic grocery bag. The dog park is located on 41st and Drayton streets in the Starland Community and is the city’s first park dedicated solely to dogs and their owners. The dog park offers a shaded, fenced-in area where your dog can play and socialize with other dogs off the leash. Dogs need an outlet for their energy. Dogs who can run around with a feeling of freedom a few times each week will be better fit, less destructive, better neighbors and more socialized around other dogs and people. Plus, non-dog owners will appreciate fewer dogs in their parks.

The mission of the park is to enhance the bond between people and their pets in an urban environment. The Savannah Dog Park Association will promote responsible dog ownership while providing educational opportunities for owners and promoting the health of their pets.
